Blessing of the Animals (Pets)

  • St. John Church 111 Walnut St. Boiling Springs, PA, 17007 (map)

Christians around the world celebrate a ritual that St. Francis of Assisi began almost 800 years ago—the blessing of animals. St. Francis introduced the idea that humans are just one of God’s many creations, and that all creatures, including animals, are blessed by God. Born in Italy around 1181, St. Francis is considered the Patron Saint of animals and the natural environment. Every year, around the beginning of October, many congregations hold a special liturgy called the "Blessing of the Animals."

This year, bring your pets to St. John Lutheran Church for that special blessing! The service will include prayers for creation and a blessing for the animals. It will take place OUTSIDE on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at noon. Please ensure your pets are either leashed or caged. We look forward to celebrating with you and your furry friends!
